European Ozone Research Coordinating
Unit News
The primary activity of the Ozone Unit at present is logistical support
for the current intense phase of the arctic stratosphere component of THESEO,
the third major coordinated European research effort to investigate ozone.
The six week arctic field campaign has so far suffered from inclement meteorological
conditions but recently conditions have improved and at the time of writing
polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) have been observed in the Arctic and recent
halogen activation has been indicated by models.
The unit also acts as a centre for the NERC UT/LS Ozone programme.
Through AERONET the unit helps to foster links between the European aerospace
industrial community and the scientific community. Over the coming months
the unit will be preparing for the first call for proposals in the 5th Framework
Programme and for the upcoming 5th European Workshop on Stratospheric Ozone
to be held at St. Jean de Luz near Biarritz (formerly held in Schliersee,
Bavaria).
